What is this CTET exam?

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is the national level entrance exam for teaching jobs. The Government of India introduced the CTET exam in 2011 to improve the quality of education in schools and effectively meet the goals of free education for children under the Education Act.

Under NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) notification sub-section (1) of section 23 of the RTE, the CTET exam is now mandatory for getting government jobs in schools teaching students from classes 1 to 8.

CBSE has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the examination. This exam is conducted twice a year, in September and February.

What is the exam pattern?

CTET exam is conducted in both English and Hindi language. The score of the CTET exam remains valid for 7 years from the date of declaration of result.

A candidate can appear for either Paper 1 or Paper 2, or both. The exam pattern is different for Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the CTET exam. The duration of Paper-1 and Paper-2 is 150 minutes.

What are the eligibility criteria for the CTET exam?

CTET Age Limit

The minimum age limit to apply for CTET 2018 is 18 years, but there is no maximum age limit.

Educational qualification

The education qualification for primary stage teachers (Class 1st to 5th) is different from the education qualification required for upper primary stage teachers (5th to 8th).
